6:00-7:30pm - £15

Looking to expand your skill set and become a multi-skilled artist or just brush off the cobwebs and get back to work?
Having a strong singing voice is a sought after skill within the performance world, and is required for everything from actor/muso productions and adapted stage plays, right through to musicals and pantomime!
In this session we will cover the basics from correct technique, breath-work, belting and range right through to trouble shooting common issues and mistakes

The session is interactive so make sure you’re comfortable, have a pen and paper and be prepared to try out the exercises. Don’t worry, you won’t be belting the house down at all….(unless you want to)

…but their will be an option to submit recordings for technique feedback post-session.

The session will take place via Zoom with limited spaces available.

Theatrical Workshops: (Musical Theatre):

Prior to Coaching and Vocal Research, I trained and worked professionally as a Musical Theatre Singer/Dancer/Actor with over 10years of experience in the industry.

The skills which I acquired through rigorous theatrical training, auditions, tours, rehearsals and performances, combined with my anatomy, physiology and vocal research have enabled me to deliver professional workshops to groups of aspiring performers.

From rehearsing, directing and producing Musicals over the past 6 years, I now lead guest workshops for Drama Schools, Colleges, Theatrical Societies and Universities, predominantly during the rehearsal periods of performances, to ensure safe vocal technique, performance and character understanding and delivery, as well as holding Q&A sessions for the students.

“Kathy has run a number of Musical Theatre workshops and rehearsals for us at college, and every time she visits, she has an instant impact on the work and output of our students! Her rapport with our students is second to none - they really want to work hard for her, but at the same time commands complete respect from the groups. I've been really impressed with how flexible Kathy has been - adapting styles of performance to suit our needs and sometimes being able to deliver for us at very short notice.”- David Lloyd-Moston (Head of Performing Arts-Loretto College)

Vocal technique workshops

I regularly host workshops for Drama Schools, Acting Agencies, Music Colleges, Performance Academies, Vocal Schools and Dance Academies purely on Vocal Health and Technique.

These workshops are interactive and explore the anatomy of the voice and the safest ways to create a sustainable sound. With todays modern music, vocal requirements are high, and without solid, safe technique a singer can strain and injure the voice, therefore an understanding of vocal health and safety, including the chance to practise high intensity singing (belting) in a controlled environment, is essential.

Time dependant, the students are able to bring material to explore in the second half of the workshop, working on their own pieces in a small group environment to then be performed and opened up to group discussion and feedback, solidifying the groups understanding of the voice through demonstration.

”Kathy proved to be a great hit with the students when doing a vocal class which incorporated the basic anatomy of the singing apparatus followed by a practical session where singing problems were discussed and explored. Kathy showed a genuine interest when working with a group or on a one to one basis, she was more than willing to investigate a range of solutions to students who had specific points that needed addressing while making it fun and encouraging. I can heartily recommend Kathy, our students were very fired up after the workshop and I would think that any set of students would benefit from her coaching and insight.” - Kevin Matthews (Vocal tutor, Pendleton School of Theatre, Salford City College)
